I have always known:
There are only so many ways to talk
about the moon, that ever-constant crevice in the dark.

I know there are too many relics to burn, &
my heart is a fire alarm. Mother says,
"In case of emergency, break glass."

Yes: my heart knows what peril means.
She says she is a gun in a black bag.
She is a dark wonder; a large black ocean—

an eye staring at nothing.
